Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Pick-Up application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms apply to all users of the App, regardless of how they access it.

2. Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to use Pick-Up. By using the App you confirm that you are 18 or older. If we become aware that a user is under 18, their data will be deleted and their access removed.

3. Anonymous Accounts

Pick-Up does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or submit any personal identifying information. You are assigned an anonymous identifier automatically when you first open the App.

You may optionally set a nickname that is visible to other players in group chats. This nickname is not verified and should not include personal information you wish to keep private.

4. How the App Works

Pick-Up allows users to search for other players interested in the same sport in a given geographic area. When players are found searching in overlapping areas, they are automatically placed into a temporary group chat. Group chats expire after 48 hours.

Pick-Up does not organise, host, or supervise any sporting events. We provide a communication tool only. Any arrangements made through the App — including where, when, and with whom you play — are made entirely at your own discretion.

5. Acceptable Use — Zero Tolerance

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on Pick-Up. Posting objectionable content or behaving abusively will result in the removal of that content and the ejection of the user responsible.

You agree not to use the App to:

• Harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate other users
• Post or send content that is hateful, discriminatory, obscene, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise objectionable
• Solicit romantic or sexual contact. Pick-Up is for organising sports and activities only
• Spam other users or send unsolicited promotional messages
• Impersonate other users or any person
• Attempt to manipulate or cheat the matching system
• Use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the App or its infrastructure
• Transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code

6. Moderation, Reporting, and Blocking

The App provides the following tools, available to every user:

• Report — flag objectionable content or an abusive user from any group chat.
• Block — block any user. A blocked user cannot message you, and you will not be matched with them again.
• Delete — remove any message you have sent, immediately.
• Leave — exit any group chat at any time.

We review every report and act within 24 hours by removing the offending content and ejecting the user who provided it. Additional action may include:

• Temporary suspension of messaging
• Permanent suspension of messaging
• Permanent removal of the user's account and access

We reserve the right to take action against any account at our sole discretion if we believe these Terms have been violated. Moderation decisions are final.

7. Location Data

Pick-Up requests access to your device's location solely to enable the sports-matching feature. Your location is used only while you have an active search running and is not stored permanently on our servers after your search is complete or cancelled.

Your location is never displayed to other users. The map and search radius shown in the App are visible only to you, on your own device. No other user can see your location, at any time or at any level of precision.

We do not sell, share, or use your location data for advertising targeting. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

8. Advertising

Pick-Up is free to use. To support the App, we display banner advertisements through Google AdMob. A banner ad appears at the top of the screen while you use the App. It does not require any action on your part, does not interrupt your use of the App, and is not tied to unlocking any feature.

Google AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to serve and measure these ads, in accordance with Google's own privacy policies. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings.

9. User-Generated Content

Messages sent in group chats are user-generated content. You are solely responsible for everything you send. Group chat messages are automatically deleted 48 hours after the chat is created, and you may delete any message you have sent at any time.

Content is filtered for objectionable language, and users may report anything that passes the filter. By sending a message in the App, you grant Pick-Up a limited licence to store and transmit that content for the purpose of delivering it to other participants in the same group chat, and to retain it where necessary for moderation.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

We do not guarantee that you will be matched with other players. The availability of matches depends entirely on the number of other users searching in your area at the same time.

Pick-Up is not responsible for the conduct of users you meet through the App. Any in-person interactions are undertaken at your own risk. Always exercise personal safety precautions when meeting people you do not know.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Pick-Up and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to personal injury, property damage, or loss of data.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the App in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, for a free app, is zero).

12. Intellectual Property

The App, including its name, logo, design, and code, is the intellectual property of the developer. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the App without prior written permission.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

For significant changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify users through the App.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.

To report a user within the App, open any group chat, tap the ⋮ menu, and choose "Report a player." To block a user, tap the ⋮ menu and choose "Block player."
